Rackspace Cloud 1.0 for iPhone Screen Shots

I have been hard at work on a new iPhone app for the Rackspace Cloud.

It helps you manage Cloud Servers and Cloud Files in your Rackspace Cloud account. When the API is released, I will submit this to the App Store and blog/tweet again when it’s released.

I could tell you all about the features, but pictures say more than words, so here is a comprehensive set of screen shots:

Sweet. Hope we can store pictures taken from the iPhone straight to could files.

  2. Mike says:

I like your idea Alex. I may add that in a future version.

Fantastic work! What would be really good would be to have most of the manage functionality that exists under the “Diagnostics” tab in cloud servers, as well as running billing/bandwidth totals. Having the widget and iphone app for slicehost was almost compelling enough reason to stay with them, so I’m thrilled that you’re creating an alternative for rackspace users. Cheers!

  4. Mike says:

Thanks! I agree that that would be nice, and when it makes it to the API, I’ll add it. At this point, I’m simply trying to implement everything in the API that makes sense for a mobile application. And of course, there’s always so much more I’d like to do :)

  5. Seth says:

    Mike,

API rollout was announced last week - when will you release this app? I’m on pins and needles here… :)

    Cheers.

The plan is to submit it this week. It’s currently in the hands of a few people at Rackspace to test and verify functionality. In the meantime, I’ve spent the weekend working on Alex’s idea to add camera and photo gallery pictures straight to Cloud Files (that’s a version 1.1 feature).

  7. [...] to create apps that interact with the cloud. Someone has already started developing an iPhone app. Not a lot of details were given, but a lot of screenshots were. Check out the screenshots below. The developers states in the [...]

    Any update? :)

  9. Mike says:

Sorry it’s taking so long :( Still waiting on some stuff with the Apple Developer account to clear up. In the meantime, I added some richer capabilities to the Servers features (resize servers, create new servers, etc).

I think the account stuff will clear up soon, though!

All these great new features are making it that much harder to wait :)

Thanks for the progress report. Any idea on pricing?

  11. Mike says:

Yes, the price will be free :)

  12. Serh says:

    Wow. That’s awesome. Thanks!!

  13. Seth says:

ARGH. Can’t wait any longer!!! MUST. HAVE. APP.

(any status update? Is Apple still giving you a hard time?)

  14. Mike says:

Haha, well I submitted it almost two weeks ago and it’s currently in the review process. If you can’t wait any longer, email me your device ID and I can send you an Ad Hoc build of the app :)

  15. Seth says:

Very cool offer, Mike - thanks. I’ve sent my ID and am happy to provide as much (or as little) feedback as you’d like. I definitely plan on putting the app through its paces :)

    Cheers!

    Looks nice…

Any idea when a iPhone Cloud Sites CP App might be in the works?

  17. Mike says:

Right now, there is no API access to Cloud Sites. When/if that is ever added to the API, I will build support into the app.

  18. Owen says:

Any plans to be able to open/view files in Cloud Files from the app, i.e. using Apple’s default doc/xls/pdf/photo viewer?

  19. Mike says:

Yes. Version 1.1 is primarily focused on Cloud Files (including opening files) … I already have a prototype of it working. I will likely submit it in a few weeks.

  20. Owen says:

    Sweet, thanks

  21. Michael says:

While working on Version 1.1 can you please get SSH working?

  22. Mike says:

Yes, that’s the plan. The SSH feature will depend on having an SSH client installed (such as iSSH).

  23. Michael says:

Mike how goes the SSH? It has been over 3 months now. I have not seen any other updates to this app but I see you have gone off and Wrote a Cloud Notes app. I will give that a try but why did you not complete the SSH part of this app?

  24. Saty says:

does the app allow to upload photos from iPhone to the cloud??

  25. Mike says:

Yes, it allows you to upload from your camera or photo library.

  26. Mike says:

Sorry I didn’t see your reply until just now. The SSH part is in the app, but you need to have an SSH client that responds to ssh:// style URLs installed on your iPhone. (I use iSSH)
