Rackspace Cloud 1.1 Submitted

Tonight I have submitted the Rackspace Cloud 1.1 update to the App Store. Here are the key new features:

  • The Launch SSH Server button works (assuming you have an ssh app such as iSSH that supports launching via URL)
  • Support for Spanish, French, and German
  • View CDN-enabled images and documents
  • Listen to CDN-enabled audio
  • Email links to CDN-enabled files
  • Email CDN-enabled files as attachments

Here’s a short video demonstrating some of the new features:

Version 1.2 will be all about creating content for Cloud Files.

The one thing that I really wish was available was creating IP groups (since there’s no way to do this except through the API, and no client libraries have been released yet). That said, it’s probably a pretty rarely used feature, so I’ll understand if it doesn’t make it in. Still, would be nice.

Either way, this is an amazing app, and incredibly useful. Really looking forward to the next release!

Dan, thanks for the nice words :) If you want the app early (as well as future versions), email me your device ID and you can become a beta tester.

I agree with you that it would be nice to have IP group creation/assignment. I haven’t added it yet because no one has asked for it. I felt there was more demand for Cloud Files features than anything else. IP Groups, however, are not forgotten. I have IP group creation/assignment on my todo list for version 1.2, along with a few other goodies.

Heck, I’ll help beta test. I use CloudFiles and Slicehost.

Your Slicehost app has changed my world.

Sweet! Just email your device ID (easily obtainable through the UDID Sender app) to me at greenisus@gmail.com or mike@overhrd.com.

Will you be updating the Slicehost app with some of these new features? I still run a ton of Slices over there and probably will for a while…

    Thanks!

  6. Mike says:

Chad, yes, I will. The Slicehost app has been off my radar for quite a while, but it’s about time to give a nice refresh. It was my first app, and I’ve learned a lot since then, so I’d like to modernize it and polish a few things.

Great, I look forward to it and I know many others do as well! :)
