Rackspace Cloud 1.1 Released

Rackspace Cloud 1.1 is now available in the App Store! Let me know if you like it, hate it, or have any suggestions.

Version 1.2 will focus more on Cloud Files, with an emphasis on better navigation and control, as well as creating files (such as images from the camera).

Love it, but preview is goofing up. It won’t show me the PNG image I selected from Cloud Files.

  2. Mike says:

Oh? Can you tell me more about it? Is the content type image/png? Does the filename end in .png? Is it a very large file? I tested lots and lots of PNGs so I’m curious to know what’s going on.

  3. Will says:

Yeah, Cloud Files portion is acting a little buggy. Sometimes I see the list of files, where other times I don’t. I still cannot preview any of the PNG or JPG files.

Ability to make a container public or non-public would be a nice toggle option for a future release.

If you REALLY wanna be badass…make a sync program like JungleDisk that will sync to my regular Cloud Files account rather than one I cannot access through the API.

I use Dropbox, but I’d love to store the files on my own Cloud Files account. Obviously we’d need a Windows/Mac option to start with ability for Linux users in the future.

    Small files. < 100k.

For the record, I still use and love Slicehost with your app. I’ll keep using that one :)

  5. Mike says:

One thing I should have mentioned is that right now only CDN-enabled files can be previewed. So if the files are private, you can’t preview them on the app (at least right now). Care to email me a file you can’t view? And the public/non-public toggle is definitely coming in version 1.2.

I’ve actually been thinking a LOT about a sync app, but there are a few hurdles to deal with, such as the fact that Cloud Files cannot be renamed. But I’m with you on wanting a Dropbox style app for Cloud Files.

And thanks for the Slicehost love :) I’m actually looking into a nice refresh for that app as well.

    Sweet :)

I’ll try to pull some samples that I know are public. I’ll post these in a bit.

  7. Do you have any plans for supporting Cloud Sites?

  8. Mike says:

Absolutely, as soon as a Cloud Sites API is available to the public.

  9. Will says:

C’mon Mike. We both know you can just hack the front-end, tweak the PRAM and scramble the motherboard and call it a day. It’s THAT easy. Who needs APIs?

  10. Will says:

Mike, here’s a sample publicly-accessible PNG I was trying to “preview” within the new app update.

You’re accounting for spaces in filesnames, yeah? Not sure if that’s the cause but I noticed it once the post above with the link when onto your blog. It didn’t auto-hyperlink the entire thing.

I bet that’s not the case with all my Cloud Files uploads, though.

  12. Mike says:

You nailed it. I wasn’t covering spaces in this case. I’m quite surprised we didn’t catch that in testing :(

It’s fixed now and that file will work in the next release. Back to the motherboard scrambling! :)

  13. Will says:

Haha. Glad I could help. Cheers!

Happy thanksgiving! I see you’re well on your way to iPhone app store domination :)
