Slicehost iPhone App Update

Matt at Slicehost wrote a blog post that mentioned my iPhone app, which made me feel a little bit like a rock star, so I’ve been putting most of my free time towards finishing this app and releasing it.

I like free stuff, but I also like money. So, I’m going to release a free version and a premium version of the app for $1.99. The free version won’t be weak, though. It will allow you to edit all of your DNS settings and perform soft reboots on your slices. The premium version will have the same DNS options, but give you more options with your slices (such as hard reboots) as well as allowing you to use multiple API keys to access multiple accounts.

As far as development progress goes, all of the core functionality of the free app is now in place. I’ll be polishing a few things over the next few days, such as error handling (for example, if you lose a connection or enter invalid data for a DNS record, it fails silently instead of telling you there was a problem). My goal is to submit the app to Apple by this weekend. I expect the free app to meet that deadline, and I’m hoping to get the premium app either this weekend or before I go home for Christmas.

Here’s a screen shot of the reboot functionality:

I’ll have the app done pretty soon. I’ll probably blog about it again tonight….

  4. Ah, thanks! (be sure to use the new version!) :) Unfortunately my iPhone got stolen about two months back, but I’m definitely looking forward to testing this out when I get the chance!
